AVA Gallery and Art Lending is centrally located at Ahlströminkatu 20 in Päiviönsaari, where you can admire changing exhibitions by local and international artists. You can rent unique paintings, graphic prints, sculptures or photographs from the art lending shop to take home for a small fee. Open Wed-Sat from 14-18 or by appointment.

Taidekeskus Väinölä is an idyllic wooden house in the centre of Varkaus, surrounded by birch trees. Three gallery rooms; Valkoinen sali - Sininen hetki - Iltarusko - host changing art exhibitions throughout the year. The house also houses a large basic collection of prints, watercolours and sculptures. Väinölä has a professional framing studio and a shop selling artists' supplies and posters. Visitors can take a break in the cosy café, where they can enjoy a home-baked art cake, among other things, while enjoying their art.

In summer, Väinölä becomes home to the popular ILOA - Naivistit Varkaudessa exhibition.

In addition, Väinölä hosts puppet theatre shows. The theatre puppets and the set are made by puppet theatre educator Marja-Muusa Hämäläinen, who will also perform the story.

The home of the Kalakukko-katujuna is also in the Art Centre Taidekeskus Väinölä. The tours will be hosted by Marja-Muusa Hämäläinen. The Kalakukko street train makes charter trips in the summer. The train is covered, the windows are open and the capacity is 30 people. Themed guided tours can be arranged if required.

Originally built in 1913 by A. Ahlström Ltd., Väinölä is a log two-family dwelling house that served as housing for officials until 1983. The building's original name, Väinölä, has been preserved with great value as it has been transformed into a stronghold of fine arts in the city of Varkaus.

Artists' House Taiteilijatalo Taideniitty opened its doors in Old Varkaus on First of May 2022.

Taideniitty is a community-based creative house in Niittylä II, built in the 1910s in a beautiful and historic working-class wooden quarter, just a stone's throw from the shores of Lake Saimaa. It offers an inspiring community and environment for artists and a delightful new destination for visitors in idyllic and culturally historic old Varkaus.

The house houses artists' studios, an international artists' residency, a shared studio, accommodation, artists' homes and a summer café Fifty-fifty café Niittylä.

Varkauden Teatteri offers great theatrical experiences in an atmospheric environment.The 110-year-old professional theatre offers 4-5 premieres of its own every year with a full heart and love for the audience. Every performance at Varkauden Teatteri touches and empowers - a joy of pleasure, not forgetting the tears. In addition, the programme is enriched by Klubi-illat and star guests.

The Old Varkaus area is a nationally significant built cultural environment in Päiviönsaari and Kommila. Its building stock, which is protected in its entirety, tells the story of the industrial history and the phases of the surrounding community. The buildings were designed by Valter and Ivar Thomé and Karl Lindahl, among others. The rich cultural history of the city can be explored, for example, on the Varkaus guides' themed tours and on the self-guided "Walks in Old Varkaus" tour.
