Under one roof you will find Museum of Varkaus, Art Museum of Varkaus and a children's activity exhibition Lasten tehdas. The museum centre also has space for parties, meetings, events, space for community.
The name of the Varkauden museokeskus Konsti refers to our way of talking about industry through knowledge, innovation and people. It also refers directly to art, and to the linguistic history of Varkaus. Konsti also naturally describes the realisation and hands-on work of the Lasten tehdas. The name is also in conversation with the name Varkaus in its ambiguity. The name Konsti also reflects our inventive, playful museum.

Taipale Canal Area and Canal Museum
The canal area of Taipale is a great summer day trip destination to explore the 180-year-old old canal and the Canal Museum. Varkauden Kotiseutukeskus
Paul Wahl's factories built the property of Varkauden Kotiseutukeskus in 1858 for Sannfrid Theofron Hällström, a factory doctor. According to a floor plan in a memoir written by Hällström's youngest son, Johannes (Hannes) Hällström in 1942, the main building had seven rooms, including a doctor's consulting room and a waiting room. Parallel to the building ran the Wahl stream, on the banks of which there was a bathing room.
Mrs. Anna Hällström enjoyed nature. In the courtyard there was not only a kitchen garden, but also flower beds and ornamental shrubs. Special features were the plants sown on the lawn, the seeds of which had been brought from the botanical gardens in Helsinki by Johannes's fellow students. The rarities were still growing in 1941!
These were the first plants to be planted in the gardens of Johann Sebastian's students, who had brought them from the nursery.
Hällström and his wife Anna Katarina Lovisa Hällström had four sons. The musical tradition of both families continued in the house. Sannfrid played a lot of music with his sons and Anna taught piano to the children of the gentry. The house served as a health centre and in many ways as the musical and cultural centre of the community.
Today the property belongs to the Warkaus-seura and is used as a local history centre. The former doctor's residence and the old farmhouse have been restored to their original appearance. The house is used as a restaurant for various events, meetings, family celebrations, daily meals, etc.
