The community-oriented and diverse programme of The Night of Arts at Old Varkaus is the result of cooperation between Varkaus cultural operators, offering culture at low or even free prices!

Ahlström company built the Factory School, designed by architect Karl Lindahl, in the heart of Old Varkaus. During the guided tour, you will hear what kind of mark the over a hundred-year-old valuable building has left on the industrial history of Varkaus. Free admission!

17.00-19.00 Exploring the church premises & organ. During the evening you can come and explore the church and its magnificent organ, as well as hear music and stories about the church's art.
18.00-18.15 Organ time, the cantor is playing.
18.15 Presentation of the altar fresco, followed by organ music, the alter fresco is 242 m2 in size. It is the largest in Scandinavia as far as it is known. The fresco is painted by professor, artist Lennart Segerstråle in 1953-1954. The fresco is called "Your Kingdom Come".

Now you have the opportunity to hear about history in a very special company, guided by the Via Canalia exhibition, when Baroness von Boije, who was influential on the canal in the late 19th century, will tell her stories. 20.00–20.50 “The Strange Stories, of Taipale´s Canal” drama tour in the Taipale Canal Area, guided by Johanna Aho, the history of the Taipale Canal area is full of stories. All sorts of things have happened over the decades. This tour delves into the more unusual, tragic, exciting or otherwise forgotten stories from the history of the canal area. Stories can be found from strange accidents to the smuggling. Duration approximately 60min. Outdoor tour of approximately 1km in the Taipale Canal area. Free admission!
